Salzburger Land

In the mountains, in the valley or in the town – you can enjoy the culinary delights of Salzburger Land all year long. Popular classic dishes like Salzburger Nockerl (sweet soufflé), Kaspressknödel (cheese dumplings) or Pinzgauer Kasnockn (cheese dumplings) are served in long-established as well as haute cuisine restaurants everywhere in the province. The best-known agricultural products are milk and cheese, but also grazing cattle and game are typical for this region as well as (pome) fruit, potatoes and much more.

Dumplings, crullers & Co.

In Salzburg you definitely have to enjoy sweet classics like Salzburger Nockerl (sweet soufflé), Bauernkrapfen (crullers) or Moosbeermuas (bluberry dessert). Other typical dishes are Erdäpfelnidei (fried finger-shaped potato dumplings), Gröstl (roasted meat with potatoes), Bosna (Austrian hot dog) and Kasnockn (cheese dumplings). Even more traditional is the Schottsuppe (cheese soup). Schotten has become a rare dairy product and is made of buttermilk and cream. In former times it was a dish for poorer people, but today the cuisine of Salzburg can’t be imagined without it.

Alpine cuisine

Alpine farmers’ products like the Pinzgauer Beef, Tauern rye, Lungauer Eachtling (potato), hay milk and cheese as well as game, sheep and goat specialties should be part of every Salzburg cuisine. The close cooperation between restaurants and agriculture plays an important role. The love for old cooking techniques and traditional recipes as well as ingredients has been handed down since generations and also the partnerships to regional businesses are cultivated.

Experience Salzburger Land

Activities

Rauris Jungle: There can be discovered 400-year-old trees and about 80 moor ponds in the Rauris Jungle at the foot of the 3,106 m high Sonnblick in the Rauris Valley.

Hiking above the treetops: The treetop walk in Saalbach-Hinterglemm leads to the 42 m high “Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps”. At the top you have a wonderful view over the mountains. A good choice for an excursion with children.

Devil’s Ditch Seeham: The nature experience path leads through a wild and romantic gorge until the natural monument Wildkar Waterfall. 17 stations provide information about the forest and its inhabitants.

Marmot Safari: Who wants to closely experience marmots is just right on the alpine pasture Bachlalm in Filzmoos. With a little patience they can even be stroked and fed.
